Top 5 Podcasts for Maintaining The New You in 2016

While audiobooks are the new form of “reading”, I still enjoy the feel of a page turn or the smell of an actual book. Guess it’s just the nostalgia that draws me in.

While I live for throwback memories, there’s something to be said about the ease of podcasts and their ability to turn a lengthy train ride into a virtual workshop. Lately, I find myself listening more, and more. Uh oh...podcasts are my “gateway drug” to ebooks!

As with any literary addiction, everyone has their preference - genre, author, era, etc. Asking anyone for a list of their favorite podcasts is like asking them for a list of their favorite TV show. It’s quite a long list.

Not this time. For your listening pleasure, here’s my succinct list of 5 podcasts to help improve efficiency, achieve balance, and find that“happy place”.  #justpressplay

Freakonomics Radio – Forget everything you know and uncover the things no one tells you.  The rhythm of it flows like This American Life, another popular podcast. So if you like that, then you’ll love this.

Why I Listen To It: Simply put, I feel smarter.  If I talk about any of the topics they cover, at a cocktail party, 5 minutes later there’s a small crowd around me.

“Happier” with Gretchen Rubin – It’s a non-meditative, more practical route to happiness.  It’s a real morning motivator. I listen daily, while getting dressed and ready in the morning. Quick and effective. Each episode is 20 to 30 minutes (max), and discusses starting fresh with new habits, while leaving the old ones behind.

Why I Listen To It:  To replace the meditation I never have time for.

Girlboss Radio – Entrepreneur, or not, this podcast speaks to anyone who wants to put a better version of themselves into focus.  Sophia Amoruso is a business owner, author and above all she’s a BOSS. She unites “Girlbosses” from all walks of life, celebrity, or non, to empower the SHEro in all of us.

Why I Listen To It: Two words...empowerment and relatability (from one Girlboss to another) ;-)

Another Round – It’s an amazing podcast hosted by two funny, and super intelligent, Buzzfeed teamsters, Tracy Clayton and Heben Nigatu. These podcast partners host you for a round of drinks as they dish on race, beauty, religion, career, dating. The best part... they have no reservations about being 100% themselves.

Why I Listen To It: It feels like talking about current events with my 2 BFFs.

The Joe Rogan Experience –  Another well-rounded podcast that covers everything, without being all over the place. The former Fear Factor host gives laughs and raises eyebrows with his non-conventional advice on a wealth of conversational themes. Only the word 'experience' can describe it.

Why I Listen To It: It’s unfiltered.  I don’t always agree with what he says, but I enjoy the candid talk.

et Voilà!
